1.Strong Earthquake Response Simulator

This apparatus is consisted of the following systems.

  • a) Shaking table system (including control system)
  • b) Dynamic actuator system (including control system)
  • c) Data acquisition and analysis system
2.Management of apparatus

Fundamental notes on usage of this apparatus shall be considered by the Strong Earthquake Response Simulator committee (committee). Secretary office is placed in the committee and concrete matters such as schedule for testing will be determined by the secretary office.

3.Maintenance

This apparatus will be maintained by research field of Safety Control of Urban Space, division of Disaster Management for Safe and Secure Society, Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University for the meantime, and will be managed by the committee.

4.Purpose of use

This apparatus is subjected for use for research as the Strong Earthquake Response Simulator for the MEXT supported program "Open Advanced Research Facilities Initiative".

5.Qualifications

This apparatus is subjected for use for experiments the committee approved it fits the purpose of the Open Advanced Research Facilities Initiative Program, "Establishing Methods to Clarify Seismic Resistance of Structures Using Strong Earthquake Response Simulator".

6.Expenses

Cost of fuel and light will be supported by DPRI. Usage fee for the apparatus and measuring systems is cited in the separate regulation. Users will make arrangements for expenses for specimen and personnel expenses.

7.Procedures

Researchers willing to use the apparatus should fill the application form (Separate Sheet 1) and apply in the period of public advertisement which is separately determined, in general. Application after the period of public advertisement will be accepted on demand in case there is an open schedule, and the committee will deliberate the propriety. Users need to fill in the log every day.

8.Experiment Plan

Users must plan the experiment adequately and carefully based on the performance limit of the shaking table and preparation of sensors. User must prepare the experiment plan according to the designated format and submit it to the administrator and get its approval in advance.

9.Operation

In general, users need to take class of operation beforehand. Users must take full responsibility of the operation and attend the experiment at all times. To use the crane, user must have the license for operation of 20ton crane and sling. DPRI will not be responsible for any kind of accidents, so the users should take appropriate counter-measures, such as buying insurance.

10.Inspection

Users need to clean the room and withdraw every equipment and specimen after all the experiment is finished, and put the room back to its original state. Users should be checked approved by the administrator.

11.Reports

Users need to submit a report of the experiment to the administrator within 3 month after the end of the experiment. The properties of research results belong to the researchers, but in case of publishing they should cite that they used this apparatus and send 2 copies of the reprint to the administrator.
